March 2021 GTCC Employee of the Month Tracey Davis

Tracey Davis has one of those jobs that is vital, but in normal times, unheralded.

The past 18 months have not been “normal times,” and as the manager of student accounts at Guilford Technical Community College, Davis and her position have been center stage. First there was the pandemic, which is still a part of our everyday life. Then there was the data breach at GTCC.

Both created unrivaled circumstances and pressure for Davis. She navigated her way through it without pause, and for her performance in the unusual situations she faced, Davis has been selected the Guilford Technical Community College employee of the month for March.

According to the employee of the month nominating committee “throughout the pandemic, Tracey has worked tirelessly to adjust processes in the cashier’s office to support more online/remote transaction and minimize any potential disruptions for GTCC students. This is in addition to coordinating the logistics of critical business office processes like the daily deposit, state reporting, and other responsibilities that still need to be completed during the stay-at-home order.”

During the cyber-attack recovery efforts, she worked with a team of finance and financial aid staff to make sure students continued to receive their financial aid disbursements on time. She also juggled the realities of having to serve students in the cashier’s office, in addition to processing all transactions in the ITS department’s “clean room” on the other side of the campus.

Recently, Tracey has been working behind the scenes with ITS to make a “fee free” summer and fall possible for all GTCC curriculum students, and she has worked on multiple proposals to get stimulus funding to both curriculum and continuing education students.

The nominating committee said “Tracey is a great example of an employee who supports GTCC’s mission, our students, and the community as a whole. She has an unwavering commitment to provide excellent customer service and understands the importance of lending a helping hand to anyone in need. The finance department is fortunate to get to work with Tracey every day.”
